“And I’ve known others and I’ve loved others too, but I loved them cause they were stepping stones on a staircase to you” — “Offering,” A Carolina Jubilee -Avett Brothers
It was a perfect day. The most beautiful part was the genuine gratitude and happiness exuded by the Bride and Groom for all who were there, participating, making the day complete. I’ve never seen a bride and groom so full of love and grace. So glad I got to be a part of that.

These two. I am so excited for them. So soon! August 13th we’ll document a really important day in their lives. They are so good together, so natural, so real, so easy going. We had a blast together up at the Bay-lands in Redwood City. So glad they asked me to be thier photographer. Don’t forget to peek back this fall to see their wedding day! As we were walking around Eleanor said two things that I loved: one was, “you’re such a mom.” (haha! so true), and the second, “Cassie, I love your vision”. Best.Compliment.Ever. Thank you, lady. See you guys soon! xo
This mama and I are connected at the heart level. We could spend hours on the phone pouring our hearts out. We have. Many times. It’s always such an honor to photograph her growing family knowing that she herself was a 100% film photographer before she has her gorgeous children. The fact that she would chose me blows me away and feels like a HUGE compliment. We shot a mixture of film and digital and captured some the pure preciousness of her kids really well. I loved our session so much. x
Such a lovely way to whisk us off into the weekend…. with these two love birds. If I had to break it all down into to one word I would call it: GENUINE.
Everything about them–the way they love each other, the career paths they chose, the way they think, the art she creates, the fun that they have, and their kindness. Our conversations went from talking about finding meaning and “waking up” in our lives through mindfulness, to quoting Usher. (what?!) They are that dynamic, and real, and in touch, and young and cool. We laughed a lot and connected on deep deep levels. I felt like I had just met two great friends. They live up in Los Altos in the cutest little studio with wild grasses wrapped all around it. We went to one of their favorite parks in the area to capture them together. I shot them until there was no light left to shoot with and I had no reason to be there anymore. It sounds silly, but it’s true. It was so mellow, fun, and up-lifting. Best of all, it was revealed to me during our conversations that Narayan is the son of a woman who heals my soul when it’s aching. She speaks my truth. I listen to her talks regularly and her words dance through my mind as I fall asleep at night with her book on my face. Her name is Tara Brach. I almost cried when I realized this. Narayan just smiled at me and said “I’m so glad she’s helped you so much.” Nicole giggled a little and said “star struck?” um, yes. yes. yes! What a mother-in-law to inherit! So blessed.
Then the magic of both having family homes in Truro was brought to light and I think I almost fainted. Wow. So special to share the east coast, west coast love and lifestyle. It was meant to be to meet these two. A huge gift! I am so happy for them and wish them the absolute best life possible together. They are perfect together. What an honor to be a small part of their life, freezing a moment in time for their babies to see someday. I shot a mixture of digital and medium format film.
What a gift to see this boy again as he’s just 3.5 months away from hitting ONE year. I love how he’s grown into such a happy, beautiful boy. They came all the way down from Oakland for our session and I just loved our time together. Esme is such a natural mom. So in love with her baby boy. It was a joy to witness them as a family, and see Beckett getting ready to move… rolling over, putting weight into his legs, trying to communicate. It goes so fast. If only I could hold my babies again at that stage, even just for a minute. A good reminder to be right here right now. And to get photos that freeze them in time.
that’s all I really have to say about this baby and this session. I am so happy to know this family. They make pretty little princesses, and it’s such a privilege to me to photograph them. Baby Kate was an angel through her whole shoot and I had tons of fun with Emma and her BIG personality. So.much.fun. It could have been as much her session as her new baby sister’s. She was my focus so much of the time because 1. she’s adorable and 2. she needs that attention right now. It made her feel special to have a flower crown and be important and a focus for me. She was so good with the jealousy that came up for her when it was time to focus on baby sis. And we captured some precious moments between the two of them together. My favorite was when she kissed her toes. melt. Thank you for inviting me into your home and for a really nice session Van B’s.
ps. How gorgeous is mama’s hair?! Lucky girls to get that gene.

One of my most favorite people on this earth is Erin Edwards. We’ve grown into a friendship together over the last 9 years, both of us learning and awkwardly changing, and now we are connected at the deepest of heart and soul levels. She understands me inside out and loves me just as I am, as I love her. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a wonderful friend in my life, other than my husband. I’m grateful beyond words to share the intimate parts of my mind and life with her. Everything I tell her is received with love and authentic understanding, no judgement, no competition, no false words of confidence just to be kind. There is also so much laughter between us, like immature teenagers divulging all the asinine craziness that goes on in our minds too. That laughter and ability to laugh at ourselves is so healing for me too. The best part of this session was the walk I got to take with Erin through the redwood grove, taking in our surroundings and breathing in that moist, fresh air before we drove away.
Photographing her family is so fun. Her children are full of personality, which I feel like we really captured in this session. They moved to Arizona over the past year, which was heart breaking for everyone, but thankfully, it didn’t effect the closeness we share. She came back to graduate from her masters program and asked me to capture her family again while she was here. I couldn’t be more honored. She requested film, so we shot film and digital (more film than digital). She’s been with me on this photography journey since it began and has left behind some very talented photographers to work with me. I know it’s not just because we are friends. She tells me always it’s because she truly loves my work and style. When anyone chooses me for that reason, then it’s always a good fit and a beautiful session, guaranteed.
Thank you for playing with me among the giant beauty of the Redwoods, Edwards Family. I love all of you and miss you already. xo
